Exposure Protection

Individuals must choose thermal protection that is in keeping with the temperature of water and the type of dive being done. In many cases, the water temperature and a diver's exposure time will not require any special equipment. However, longer exposures or cold water may require the use of a dry suit to increase comfort and safety. The diver should not allow himself to become too chilled as this can increase decompression sickness risk through decreased perfusion and a cold tissue's capacity to absorb more inert gas.
